My Top Children's Books

My Top Children's books!

Some of my most thumbed books from the play room!

As well as puppets, sand, figurines, musical instruments, dress up toys and art materials, books are a well used resource in my play room as a play therapist. I am very selective on which books are allowed in and they must have a therapeutic purpose. Below are some of my most used and favourite books and they would make wonderful additions to your home (or teacher's/therapist's room).

This book is a classic and is so beautiful! The strong contrast pictures attract babies and the message touches the heart and reminds us grown ups the importance of the early attachment relationship for a child's sense of self.

This book provides varied visual and sensory input for the developing brain of young children. The simple message of this book is valuable especially to those children who are hard on themselves and have perfectionistic tendencies.

A fantastic book to help empower children (& grown ups!) to recognise emotions in their body and to have simple breathing and mindfulness strategies to manage big feelings. I'm also proud to know the amazing author who is an experienced teacher based in Hong Kong.

The Invisible String by Patrice Karst

Suitable for 3/4 yrs +

Good for separation anxiety, building security and feeling of connection

This is another classic story that is wonderful for children feeling separation anxiety. A mother shares how we are always connected to the ones we love through an invisible string that can be felt rather than seen. This makes a great bed time book and helps foster inner security.

Have you come across these books? Which one are you looking forward to reading most? I have purposely put no age limit on these books because we can always gain from reminders on the simple truths from childhood!

Happy reading!
